Urbex station Montzen

The station of Montzen in Belgium is an old abandoned train terminal. It was build during WOI at around 1915 to accommodate the German troops. During WOII heavily bombed. After WOII it was restored, but it never has it’s old glory. In 1952 they shut down the passenger trains, so it was only used for cargo trains. Today it has lost all it’s glory and is a site of vandalism. The urbex photographers will make sure we remember this once great train terminal.

Sint-Janskathedraal ‘s-Hertogenbosch

The St. John’s Cathedral in the city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch) is really a magnificent cathedral. It has a very richly decorated and extensive interior. It has the honorary title of Basilica Minor by Pope John Paul II in 1985.
It truly is a majestic building and you can almost feel the hard labor that has been done to build this cathedral.
Notice the nicely build houses if the stroll around at the back of the cathedral, they breath romance.

Circle of life behind bars

The image was taken at the Museum Helmond – Kunsthal. While attending the grand opening of the photography tour, insprired by the paintings of mideaval painter Lucas Gassel (1488 –1568/69).
I spotted this window, to me it represents a circle, which in intself is stuck in the bars. However, it gives you a glimpse how the outside world will look like. High diafragma because I did want a difuse background, representing the ‘not exectaly knowing what you can expect outside’.

Dordrecht canal in black and white

The city of Dordrecht is truly a gorgeous city to just wander around. You will be amazed by it’s beauty, narrow alley‘s, houses and canals. Some houses are actually a few hundred years old. Tourists most likely say ‘typically Dutch’, and it’s true. Old cities like Amsterdam, Utrecht and Dordrecht are alike with the canal stream and architectural style. Dordrecht is often called ‘Little Amsterdam’, once visited you immediately recognize this. Perhaps these kind of images are more bright in color, but I cannot say that out loud as a black and white photographer.

The city of Dordrecht is well known and famous for it’s historical buildings, canals and small streets. The later is true gold to me, as a Black and White photographer I always look ‘up’ in a historical city. To spot window shutters in France, balconies in Spain and, in this case, old wood that keeps the historical buildings steady in Dordrecht.
I do like the sharp contrast between the walls and the extended view towards the light at the far end of the picture.

Living in a ghost town

The city of Doel in Belgium was real village. It has a nuclear powerplant facility.
The village will face complete demolition in the future because the land will be reclaimed from the river Scheldt. Reason is the expansion of the Port of Antwerp.
It feels surreal and sometimes creepy to walk in a totally abandoned village.
Living in a town like Doel is real for some people who are homeless and live in the abandoned homes. Go visit Doel for yourself.
